Redefining Your Facial Features

Nose reshaping surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a procedure our Gatineau practice offers to patients who wish to achieve a nose shape that better complements their facial profile. With this facial cosmetic surgery procedure, Dr. Patricia Berbari can change the size, shape, and contour of your nose, enhancing your entire facial appearance. If you feel self-conscious about the shape or size of your nose, contact our Gatineau practice to learn if rhinoplasty is right for you.

General Information

Nasal deformities may be accidental or hereditary. In some ethnic groups, for example, the nose may be larger or have a bump, without ever having been injured. Nose reconstructive surgery is typically performed from inside your nose. Dr. Berbari sedates her patients using local or general anesthesia for one to two hours, then makes incisions inside the nostrils, sometimes incising the septum between the nostrils. Our outstanding surgical team can change your nasal bone and cartilage in several ways. Using cartilage that has been taken from your ear or from deep inside your nose, Dr. Berbari can make minor alterations to the shape and size your nose. By using bone grafts or cosmetic implants, our skilled surgical team can meticulously re-structure or augment large portions your nose.

As with all procedures we offer, surgery is preceded by an extensive consultation in which Dr. Berbari will note your specific goals to create a treatment plan that can produce the results you desire. It is important to set realistic goals for your nose reshaping surgery. If your case requires especially complex care, we may refer you to a specialist who dedicates his or her time to effectively treating severe cases.

Advantages of Rhinoplasty

Gatineau plastic surgeon Patricia Berbari uses this nose reshaping procedure to help people who have been injured, need to improve their breathing, or want to correct birth defects. The procedure can also prove greatly beneficial for patients who want to:

  • Slim their nostrils
  • Raise or define the tip of their nose
  • Modify their bone or nose cartilage
  • Straighten the bridge of their nose
  • Alter the angle between your nose and lips

Risks & Complications

All surgical procedures, including rhinoplasty, involve a degree of risk. Infection is rare and the amount of bruising and swelling depends on the extent of the operation (whether bones were displaced or major changes were made). Pain does not last long, as the nose is numb.

A patients nose will be packed (with gauze) for twenty-four hours, following surgery, to minimize bleeding. A splint will also be placed on the nasal bridge for 7 to 10 days, following treatment.

It is important to note that swelling may last from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on the characteristics of the skin and the extent of the operation. As well, the tip of the nose may remain hard and must therefore be massaged to soften up the tissues. Some patients use lymphatic drainage to speed up healing.
