IPL treatment is simple: after applying a gel, your aesthetician uses a handpiece to deliver small pulses of light to the skin.

How IPL Works

Intense pulsed light – or IPL – is an advanced, nonsurgical laser technology that can be used for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures. In the field of cosmetic surgery, IPL is used to perform a wide array of skin treatments including photorejuvenation.

IPL with Lumecca delivers up to three times more energy to improve the efficacy of treatment. Compared to traditional IPL, it also offers faster results and shorter treatment time. While standard IPL typically takes between four to six sessions, treatment with Lumecca can be completed in just one to two appointments.

What Conditions can Lumecca Treat?

Lumecca can treat a variety of skin conditions on every area of the body. This type of treatment is effective for improving the appearance of:

  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Vascular lesions
  • Rosacea
  • Large pores
  • Freckles
  • Wrinkles

If you are uncertain about whether IPL is appropriate for your goals, Dr. Berbari can evaluate your candidacy during a consultation.

Lumecca Benefits

Lumecca offers a number of benefits over traditional IPL. For example, Lumecca is:

  • Nonsurgical
  • Safe for all skin types
  • Faster than traditional IPL
  • Virtually pain-free

Consequently, this system can offer more comprehensive results with less time required for recovery.

What to Expect during Treatment

Lumecca can usually be completed in under an hour at our office. To begin the treatment process, protective eyewear will be provided. This will shield you from the bright flashes of light. Next, a cool gel will be applied to the treatment area. This will provide lubrication and help keep the skin cool during the procedure.

Brief pulses of light will be applied to the skin via the handpiece. During this step, patients will feel a warming sensation and may experience slight discomfort, similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin. Once the procedure is complete, the treatment area will be colled to soothe the skin.

Recovery following IPL with Lumecca is typically short. Patients may notice redness and a slight warming of the skin, although these side effects usually diminish within a few hours. Full results are typically noticeable just a few days to one week after the first session. After treatment, it is essential that patients protect the skin by wearing sunblock and avoiding excessive sun exposure.
