Breast Augmentation for Asymmetry By Patricia Berbari on November 27, 2018

Healthcare provider holding breast implantsDid you know that over half of all women have one breast that is visibly different from the other? When there is a noticeable difference in the volume, size, form, or position of the breasts, it can be a source of insecurity for many women.

That is why we perform breast augmentation for asymmetry at our Gatineau, QC practice. Here, Dr. Patricia Berbari explores the breast augmentation procedure so patients can be well-informed about their treatment choices.

Causes of Asymmetrical Breasts

There are several different reasons why a woman may develop asymmetrical breasts. For example, this condition can occur due to:

  • Extreme growth of one breast during your late teens or early 20s
  • Uneven breast development during adolescence
  • A history of pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Mastitis, or an infection of the breasts
  • Mastectomy for breast cancer treatment
  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Uneven shrinkage of the breasts during the aging process
  • Undesired results after previous breast augmentation

Am I Eligible for Breast Augmentation for Asymmetry?

Virtually any woman who is concerned about breast asymmetry can be considered for this treatment. We recommend that patients wait until they are at least 21 years of age, as growth and development will be complete by this point.

General candidates will be in good overall health and will be free of any health conditions that make surgery a potential risk. In addition, eligible patients should have a thorough understanding of the treatment process and realistic expectations regarding results.

How the Procedure Works

Dr. Berbari plans treatment according to the unique needs of the individual. When addressing breast asymmetry, we may consider several different approaches. For example, Dr. Berbari may:

  • Place breast implants
  • Perform a breast reduction on one or both breasts
  • Recommend a breast lift as part of the procedure to address drooping or sagging breasts

How Can I Know Which Option Is Best for Me?

The only way to fully explore your treatment options is to attend a consultation with a plastic surgeon. Dr. Berbari takes time with each patient to fully understand her needs and aesthetic concerns.

After a comprehensive evaluation, she will be able to recommend treatment appropriate for your unique situation. We want you to be comfortable with the treatment choices you make. That is why we walk with you every step of your journey.
