BOTOX® Injection Results: What Patients Can Expect By Patricia Berbari on August 29, 2017

A woman undergoing BOTOX injection treatmentThere are many options available for enhancing your appearance and fighting signs of aging. While cosmetic surgery options are popular, cosmetic injectables have been growing steadily in popularity over the years. In fact, many patients come to our Gatineau practice specifically for BOTOX® injections and other non-surgical therapies to look their best.

We'd like to take a moment to consider the nature of BOTOX® injections and what results patients can expect from treatment.

How BOTOX® Injections Work

BOTOX® injections are a type of cosmetic injection that work by halting muscle contractions in the injection site. By stopping muscle contractions, muscles will not agitate skin that causes wrinkles to form in those areas. The result is smooth, soft, wrinkle-free, and younger-looking skin for months at a time.

Wrinkles That BOTOX® Injections Can Address

BOTOX® injections are ideal for treating dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that are caused by muscle contractions. Examples of dynamic wrinkles that can be addressed through BOTOX® injections include the following:

  • Crow's feet
  • Worry lines on the forehead
  • Frown lines
  • Lines around the mouth

By contrast, static wrinkles (lines and wrinkles present without muscle contractions) are not treatable with BOTOX® injections.

BOTOX® Injection Results

After undergoing BOTOX® injection treatment, patients look years younger and much more refreshed and relaxed. There is no time off from work required, and no downtime after the brief injection treatment, so the results are achieved with minimal interruption to your daily routine and normal life.

How Long Do BOTOX® Injections Last?

While the results can vary from patient to patient, BOTOX® injections typically last around six months to seven months. During that time, the patient experiences the benefits of BOTOX® injection therapy and looked years younger.

Repeat BOTOX® Injection Treatments

As the effects of the BOTOX® injection treatment fade, patients can elect to undergo additional BOTOX® injections to prolong the anti-aging results. Your surgeon will be able to determine when to perform these secondary BOTOX® injection treatments during follow-ups or consultations.

BOTOX® Injections vs. Facial Plastic Surgery

BOTOX® injections can yield comparable results to certain kinds of facial surgery procedures. While the results of BOTOX® injections are only temporary, there is no scarring and patients run the risk of fewer complications thanks to this non-invasive treatment option.

BOTOX® Injections vs. Dermal Fillers

BOTOX® injections can be as effective as dermal fillers when treating certain kinds of wrinkles. For static wrinkles, however, dermal fillers are much more effective at achieving optimal anti-aging results. Certain fine lines and wrinkles are best treated with a combination of BOTOX® injections and dermal filler injections, so don't be surprised if this is a solution that is recommended to you as an alternative to plastic surgery.
