As we age, we see some droopiness of the face like in any other part of the body. So we have skin laxity, we have jowling, and especially at the level of the neck we can start seeing some chords and some extra skin. Most women or men who come and want to enhance their look, they start with some injectables. First, a little bit of Botox fillers, and after the age of 50 or 55 they want a better result. They want more skin tightening. We can use the lasers. We can use facial creams, treatments, but there's a limit to all of these treatments, and sometime we need the help of the knife. So when we make a facelift, we proceed in the operating room, and this is done under sedation. We need a general anesthetic to do a face lift. I don't like to give an operated look to my patients, and no patient wants to look different. They all want to look rested, a little bit younger, but not too much younger because they don't like people to guess they've had the procedure. And contrary to most people's thinking this is approximately a 10 or 15 day downtime procedure. So they can go back after two to three weeks to their regular activities. The swelling is gone. There is very little bruising with the new techniques we're using now.
