Blepharoplasty Eyelid Surgery Gatineau
Is sagging skin above and below your eyelids making you appear more tired and older than you really are? Dr. Patricia Berbari has years of experience correcting eyelids by sculpting the skin surrounding your eyes. Eyelid surgery at our Gatineau cosmetic and aesthetic centre can help you redefine the way you look and improve the way you feel about your appearance. As one of the areas elite cosmetic and plastic surgeons, Dr. Berbari can help you achieve the rested, alert appearance you desire.
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, addresses sagging skin tissue, deep-set wrinkles, fat deposits, and bags that form beneath your eyes. Before performing surgery, Dr. Berbari will conduct a one-on-one consultation with you to determine the best way to achieve the results you desire.
Dr. Berbari administers general anesthesia for your comfort throughout the cosmetic surgery procedure, which generally lasts about one hour. Dr. Berbari utilizes an innovative incision technique that hides the scars that result from having surgery. She places incisions in the natural creases and folds of your skin, leaving scars virtually undetectable. During surgery, Dr. Berbari will make an incision in your upper or lower eyelid, from which she will remove fat or excess skin. At that time, she may also tighten loose tissue and stretch the existing muscle to give a lifted, firm appearance. Results from the surgery will improve over the course of your recovery, which typically lasts a few weeks.
Candidates for Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Berbari requires all of her patients to undergo a comprehensive evaluation before determining which enhancement procedure best fits their needs and fulfills their cosmetic desires. Older patients with vision conditions should undergo an eye examination by a specialist to detect potential complications such as dry eye or excessive tears. Candidates for eyelid surgery at our Gatineau surgical centre most commonly include patients who:
- Desire an improvement in their appearance
- Have sagging skin in their upper or lower eyelids
- Are in good health and have healthy tissue surrounding their eyes and brow
- Are non-smokers
- Do not have serious eye diseases or severe eye conditions
- Have realistic goals for their cosmetic enhancement
If a sagging brow is contributing to the drooping of the upper eyelids, blepharoplasty alone may not produce the desired results. In this case, a brow ptosis, and brow lift, may be necessary to effectively lift the upper eyelids.
Dr. Berbari does not perform blepharoplasty on patients who are of Asian decent. Because the treatment required to produce outstanding results for these patients is especially complex, Dr. Berbari will refer these patients to a surgeon with the required expertise.
Risks and Complications
A patient may complain of extreme pain and his or her vision may be clouded. While this is a medical emergency, the problem can be quickly dealt with by a trusted medical professional. As some bruising and swelling may occur, we recommend taking Arnica Montana (a natural product) as a preventive measure.
The duration of healing typically lasts from two to four weeks, however, lifting weights of more than 5 kilos and doing strenuous physical exercise is prohibited for six weeks.
