Different Methods Used When Performing Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are also a number of different options out there when it comes to the breast augmentation surgery itself.

Breast Augmentation Surgery - The Basics
First the basics of breast enlargement surgery at our cosmetic plastic surgery centre in Gatineau. During the breast augmentation procedure, an incision will be made in order to introduce the breast implant into the breast pocket. Patients will be under general anesthetic during this surgery in order to reduce any and all anxiety and distress.
Incision Techniques for Breast Augmentation
There are four common incision techniques used for Gatineau breast augmentation surgery:

Inframammary incisions - Inframammary incisions are incisions that are made along the underside of the breasts. This generally means the crease where the bottom of the breast meets the chest.

Periareolar incisions - Periareolar incisions are incisions that are made around the areola, the darker portion of skin around the nipple.

Transaxillary incisions - Transaxillary incisions are incisions that are made in the patient's arm pit. Though the incisions are well hidden, patients should note that this type of incision method can only be used when placing saline breast implants.

Transumbilical breast augmentation incisions (TUBA) - Transumbilical breast augmentation incisions are made in the patient's belly button. As with transaxillary incisions, patients should note that this type of incision method can only be used when placing saline breast implants.
Implant Placement Techniques for Breast Augmentation
There are two different ways that the cosmetic surgeon can place breast implants in the breast pocket.

Subglandular Breast Implant Placement - With subglandular breast implant placement, the breast implant is placed under the mammary gland but on top of the pectoral muscle.

Submuscular Breast Implant Placement - With submuscular breast implant placement, the breast implant is placed under the mammary gland and the pectoral muscle.
Combination Breast Enhancement Surgeries
Breast augmentation surgery is sometimes performed in combination with other surgeries. Breast implants can be placed as part of breast lift surgery as well as breast reduction surgery in order to improve perkiness and shape. In some cases, surgeons will use the incisions made during a tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) to place the breast implants. (This technique is known as transabdominal breast augmentation incisions, or TABA.)
