Learn More about Gummy Bear Breast Implants

One decision that can have a significant impact on the results of treatment is the choice between saline and silicone breast implants. Before undergoing treatment, Dr. Berbari will review the unique benefits of saline and gummy bear breast implants at her Gatineau practice to determine the type that can best achieve your unique goals. Receiving Gummy Bear Implants

Made of a cohesive silicone gel, gummy bear implants are designed to mimic the look and feel of natural breast tissue. They come in a variety of pre-filled sizes and are available in both round and teardrop shapes. Before undergoing treatment, Dr. Berbari will take the time to discuss your goals and determine the best placement location for your implants. Implants can be positioned either above or below the pectoral muscle. Since silicone implants provide a natural look even without retro-muscular placement, we often recommend retro-glandular (above muscle) placement for these types of implants because this technique is less invasive.

On the day of your breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Berbari will make incisions around your areolas, down your breasts, or along the folds of your breasts. She will then use these openings to insert your implants. Once they are in place, Dr. Berbari will make any necessary modifications before suturing and cleaning your incisions to complete the procedure.

Benefits of Gummy Bear Implants

Many patients choose cohesive silicone gel implants because they:

  • Can create an extremely attractive and natural-looking appearance
  • Are formulated to have a soft and highly realistic texture
  • Are less likely to change shape over time than saline and standard silicone implants
  • Have a reduced risk of visible rippling than other types of implants
  • May be less likely to rupture than other types of implants

In addition, gummy bear implants provide all of the typical advantages of breast augmentation, giving you a fuller, sexier bust.

Risks

While breast augmentation surgery is typically quite safe, enhancing your figure with gummy bear implants still carries certain risks. These include:

  • Post-surgical infection
  • Changes in nipple and areola sensitivity
  • Discomfort, which usually goes away over time
  • Scar tissue contraction (a condition known as capsular contracture) around the implants

Like all breast implants, gummy bear types also have a risk of rupture. In these cases, the leakage is typically gradual and not as immediately obvious as a ruptured saline implant. However, extensive studies have shown that ruptured silicone implants do not pose a significant health hazard to patients, and the issue can be corrected with revision surgery. Dr. Berbari will further detail the risks of gummy bear implants and explain how we work to limit them during your initial breast augmentation consultation.
